I first learned of Looney Labs through some random link to Andy's Iceland comic, in the summer of 1999, a particularly auspicious and exciting time at the Lab. I was immediately fascinated by this strange and compelling Icehouse game, and thought long and deeply about it before ever laying hands on a set of pieces. Since then I've come to enjoy a great many pyramid games, especially Icehouse, Gnostica, Zendo, RAMbots, and Martian Chess, each of which exercises the brain in its own unique way. In a lighter mood, I also enjoy Looney Labs card games, favoring Aquarius for its geometric and aesthetic qualities. I rarely do official or scheduled demos, but regularly play games at a local store, gladly and routinely teaching games on an impromptu basis.
Apart from playing games, I like thinking, and working with my hands. (Actually, this is aparent in my game preferences as well, from Go to Tiddlywinks.) I enjoy many hobbies, such as pinhole photography, recreational programming, and bonsai. By day (and occasionally by night) I'm a doctoral student in physics at "The" Ohio State University, investigating the details of pattern formation in two-layer convective systems. |
