I enjoy Gnostica, RAMbots, Zagami, Alien City, and various other strategic pyramid games. I like Fluxx, Chrononauts, and Aquarius, but I find myself wishing they were a little less chaotic-- I have invented a couple alternate Aquarius games that are fairly strategic. I also enjoy Zendo, as well as the card game it was based on, Eleusis.
I think my first encounter with Looney Labs games was when a friend of mine recounted her first Fluxx game: her friends said "to start, there are no rules except what's on the cards", so she looked at her hand, saw a card that said "if you have milk and cookies in front of you, you win", went to the kitchen, came back with some milk and cookies, then played the card and said "I win!" Which I guess just goes to show that you still need to explain some things before you start playing Fluxx...
Besides Looney Labs games, I play plenty of "German-style" board games; some of my favorites include Carcassonne, Settlers of Catan, Princes of Florence, Tigris & Euphrates, and Hare & Tortoise. I'm also a pretty decent Scrabble player, and I love Wiz-War but don't get to play it much.
Other than games, my interests include indie music, computer programming, reading SF, and trying to catch up with my TiVo. |
