I have been involved with Looney Labs since October 2003, when I bought a copy of Fluxx at Borders to help keep my partner happy and healthy during her surgery and chemotherapy for ovarian cancer. Not only did we enjoy playing, but so did the nurses and other patients! So I bought more Looney games for us and relatives for Christmas, and I've been a Rabbit ever since. Since Nancy's recovery, I have tried to spread the news about Looney Labs by hosting a games night at our co-op, holding a National Games Week mini experiment, playing the games with anyone I can find, and offering feedback to the Looneys regarding getting into the education market. :o)
I have continued to enjoy the updates from Wunderland, and have come to feel like I know the folks at Looney Labs to some degree, even though I've never met them. I appreciate their intelligence, openness, capacity for fun, and social activism. They seem like thoughtful and loving people.
As for myself, I was born to be a teacher. It's what I've done for as long as I can remember. My current official title is Education Specialist for a clinic called The Learning Advantage. I spend my mornings as a contract teacher at Yocha-De-He Preparatory School and my afternoons and evenings working one-on-one with struggling students from kindergarten to adult.
In my virtually non-existent spare time, I enjoy all sorts of playful pursuits and being outdoors (camping, kayaking, walking, biking, or just laying on the ground looking up at the leaves and the sky above me). Besides Looney Labs games, some of my current playful diversions include SuperDuperGames, Conceptis Puzzles, Runescape, and geocaching.
I also enjoy traveling, especially cross-country road trips, though I haven't had the funds to do much of that in years. Some of my favorite locations are New York City, Yosemite National Park, San Francisco, and Catalina Island. And I miss Indianapolis, where I lived for four years. I especially miss the snow, The Orchard School, the Children's Museum, and Conner Prairie Living History Center. I currently very much enjoy living in Yolo County, California (near Sacramento). |
